Law & Order (Episode 2)

In episode 1, I submitted that where there is no punishment, there is no law.

Now, let me submit that the Ten Commandments (i.e. the Law) is no longer relevant to us.

God did not institute the Law to be just a code of conduct. Punishment is part and parcel of the Law.

Deuteronomy 28:15 says "But if you refuse to listen to the Lord your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you:"

The penalties for breaking the Law are listed in Deuteronomy 28:16-68. Those who embrace the Law today betray a lack of understanding of the Law - its unattainable perfect standards and the severe penalties for breaking it.

In Matthew 5:27-28, Jesus illuminated for us the perfectness of the standard that the Law demands:
27 “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Then in Matthew 5:29-30, Jesus says analogically that if you break the Law, the penalty is so severe that it is better for you to remove the body part which may cause you to sin than to face the consequences when you do sin.
So if your eye—even your good eye[l]—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand[m]—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

That is why God also instituted blood sacrifices from animals to cover those sins; God knows that it is impossible to keep His Law. Note that the blood from the animals only COVER SIN, they CANNOT TAKE AWAY SIN.

Hebrews 10: 1, 4 (NLT)
1 The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.
4 For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Only Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, can take and took away sin.
