See Good Days in 2009

Every year-end for the past few years, I have always looked forward to the last sermon of the year by Pastor Joseph Prince.  This is because I honour him as a man of God who listens to the heart of God and I want to hear what God has in store for us in the coming year.

Last Sunday, Pastor Prince told us that God said 2009 is the acceptable year of the Lord.  I will leave the details of the sermon to Terence to post on his blog but the scripture reference is Luke 4:17-22 which is the passage about Jesus reading from the scroll at the synagogue, Isaiah 61:1-7.

Jesus read this:
18 “ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
       Because He has anointed Me
      To preach the gospel to the poor;
      He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
      To proclaim liberty to the captives
      And recovery of sight to the blind,
      To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
       19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

However, Isaiah 61:1,2 actually says this:
1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me,
      Because the LORD has anointed Me
      To preach good tidings to the poor;
      He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
      To proclaim liberty to the captives,
      And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
       2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,
      And the day of vengeance of our God

Jesus closed the scroll and stopped reading after "to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord".  He did not continue with "and the day of vengeance of our God".

The Amplified Bible gives a clearer picture of the "acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:19):
19To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound.]

Jesus says He is here to only proclaim God's free favours profusely abounding on us, only salvation and not vengeance. Amen!

But why is 2009 the year?  Well firstly, Pastor Prince said this is God's message to our church that 2009 is the year when His salvation and free favours profusely abound on us.  You can choose to believe or not believe.  I choose to believe because I believe that Pastor Prince hears God (again, you also have the right to choose to believe or not believe that Pastor Prince hears from God).

Secondly, in Luke 4:21 Jesus says ,"Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."  I choose to believe what Jesus says. I will tell myself everyday: "Today, I receive God's salvation and free favours profusely abounding on me. Amen!"

During his preaching (in the first service), Pastor Prince spoke in tongues and prophecied that 2009 will be a turning point for us, there will be a turnaround which I claimed in faith by saying "Amen!".

2 Corinthians 1:20 (New Living Translation)
For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

Do you want to see good days in 2009?  Then speak good things and not evil over your life.  Say "Amen!" to God's promises. Say "Amen!" when a man of God proclaims Good News to you. Say "Amen!" to the acceptable year of the Lord in 2009!

Psalm 34:12-13 (NIV)

12 Whoever of you loves life
       and desires to see many good days,

 13 keep your tongue from evil
       and your lips from speaking lies.
